Charles III imported the lottery from Naples in 1763 and it became a prized source of income. Testimonies are provided on the popularity of the lottery from its introduction and in the following centuries. In 1812, the Cortes of Cádiz approved a new type of lottery with tickets divided into tenths under the name of the national lottery
