This anonymous 17th-century work depicts a domestic interior in which the family’s livelihood depends on the sale of various goods, in this case game and fruit. Traditionally, in craft trades, the woman’s role, in addition to bringing up children if there were any, looking after the house, obtaining food and cleaning the house, consisted of actively participating in different productive tasks, one of them being the sale of goods.
