The vendor is seated on a wooden bench with a basket of wickerwork on a stool. A young man reaches for a doughnut, which he holds in his left hand. Acquired as an anonymous work, it is a carefree and sincere approach to humble, everyday life, with no more than anecdotal scope, but at other times capable of penetrating the depths of the conscience of the humble in the manner inspired by Caravaggio. Despite certain anatomical and luminous deficiencies, the work reflects the qualities of the sweets that are the main attraction of the composition and the way in which they were distributed among the society of the time.
