Teniers frequently used in his genre scenes the theme of bowlers and other peasant games such as bocce, popular entertainments in the Flemish world of the 17th century. The composition is similar to Teniers’s works: at one end, the houses serve as a spatial reference, while the earthen slope develops a perspective towards the background of the landscape where the small village is located.
