The theme developed is the moment when Montezuma is taken prisoner by the Spanish soldiers while a group of Indians contemplate the scene with tears and others point to the scene that is taking place. In addition, another group tries to throw down a cross erected in front of the enclosure of their idols. The set of 24 panels destined for Charles II to add to the royal collections is executed using the “enconchado” technique. This is applied to a wooden support lined with linen cloth and in some cases a gesso preparation is applied, fragments of nacre are applied with animal glue and then covered with the pictorial layer.
