Eugène Isabey, a 19th-century Parisian painter, depicted this gallant scene in a room with a couple depicted full-length and dressed in 17th-century fashion. During the Romantic period, a multitude of lithograph albums appeared, depicting the customs and fashions of previous centuries and continuing for decades afterwards. In addition, during the Elizabethan era, people dressed up in the costumes of the sixteenth century. From this period onwards, the taste for reminiscing about times gone by with this type of costume continued.
