La trama se basa en hechos reales, aunque hay muchos elementos que no son fieles a la realidad. Gan\u00f3 el Globo de Oro a la mejor pel\u00edcula extranjera en 1995. Farinelli tuvo una gran carrera por las principales cortes europeas (Mil\u00e1n, Viena, Londres, Madrid). La castraci\u00f3n era un m\u00e9todo para producir sopranos o contraltos masculinos.
