La trama se enmarca en las ciudades italianas de Monteriggioni y, especialmente, Roma, aunque existen misiones en otras localizaciones italianas y en la ciudad de Viana, en el Reino de Navarra. Se desarrolla en las primeras d\u00e9cadas del siglo XVI, concretamente al final del papado de Alejandro VI.
