En 1863 comienza a construirse la primera l\u00ednea de metro del mundo. La l\u00ednea metropolitana conectaba la estaci\u00f3n de Paddington \u2013 la terminal de tren para muchos trabajadores del centro de Londres \u2013 con la calle Farrindon, cercana al Banco de Inglaterra. En 1891, se crea la Central London Railway con una l\u00ednea que conectar\u00eda el centro financiero de la ciudad con los barrios residenciales.
