La Tarasca es una criatura mitol\u00f3gica, de origen franc\u00e9s, que representa una alegor\u00eda de c\u00f3mo el bien triunfa frente al mal. La Tarasca era descrita como una especie de drag\u00f3n devastador que habitaba en Provenza y destru\u00eda todo. Santa Marta logr\u00f3 doblegar a la monstruosa fiera con sus plegarias, por lo que los habitantes de la ciudad lograron acabar con \u00e9l. Tras ello, Santa Marta predic\u00f3 entonces un serm\u00f3n que convirti\u00f3 a muchos de los habitantes al cristianismo y provoc\u00f3 el arrepentimiento por haber matado al monstruo. Durante la Edad Moderna estuvo presente en las celebraciones religiosas de la fiesta del Corpus, aunque durante el reinado de Carlos III se prohibi\u00f3 todo elemento profano en estas fiestas.
