Esta obra realizada por Andr\u00e9s S\u00e1nchez, fue mandada pintar para Felipe III por orden del oidor Juan del Barrio de Sep\u00falveda en 1599. En ella se rerpesenta a Francisco de la Arobe junto a sus hijos Pedro y Domingo, caciques de la regic\u00f3n ecuatoriana de Esmeraldas. Estos personajes habitualmente vest\u00edan con manta y camisetas. Sin embargo, para retratarse lo hacen con jub\u00f3n y capas espa\u00f1olas, junto a la lechuguilla, a lo que a\u00f1adieron sus narigueras y bezotes propias del entorno ind\u00edgena. Andr\u00e9s S\u00e1nchez, pintor de la regi\u00f3n ecuatoriana, conjuga el lenguaje pict\u00f3rico occidental para transmitir al rey la imagen de sometimiento a la Corona de la poblaci\u00f3n conocida como \u00abcimarrones\u00bb, huidos de los barcos espa\u00f1oles que hab\u00edan naufragado en la costa del Pac\u00edfico, convirti\u00e9ndose en caciques para la poblaci\u00f3n ind\u00edgena.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
