La obra de Manuel Rodr\u00edguez de Guzm\u00e1n refleja a un numeroso grupo compuesto por lavanderas que realizan sus labores al son de la m\u00fasica que produce un hombre con su guitarra en el centro de la composici\u00f3n. A su lado, una maja aparece recogida en el regazo de un militar que tambi\u00e9n disfruta de la canci\u00f3n que interpreta el hombre. Aunque se encuentren estos personajes en el centro de la composici\u00f3n, el protagonismo es de las mujeres que van a lavar al r\u00edo los ropajes de sus casas o de las casas en las que sirven.
