Las armaduras \u00aba la romana\u00bb evocaban las corazas de la antigua Roma. El gusto renacentista por revivir la antig\u00fcedad fue llevado a su m\u00e1xima expresi\u00f3n con esta armadura sin copiar con exactitud los modelos romanos, pese a que son reinterpretados. Esta armadura fue hecha para Guiobaldo II della Rovere, Duque de Urbino, como indican las iniciales en el centro del faldaje del espaldar, enlazadas con las de su esposa Guilia Varano. Esta armadura se encontraba en la Real Armer\u00eda ya que el duque debi\u00f3 regal\u00e1rsela a Felipe II, posiblemente, en agradecimiento a su nombramiento como caballero del Tois\u00f3n en 1561, a cuyo servicio accedi\u00f3 en 1558.
