Esta prende tiene su origen en la Francia del siglo XVIII a trav\u00e9s del impulso estil\u00edstico que ejerci\u00f3 como potencia europea durante la \u00e9poca ilustrada. En conjunto, es una prenda de ropa interior que potenci\u00f3 las curvas de la silueta femenina, hasta entonces constre\u00f1ida y oculta, que ajusta el talle y oprime el torso desde el pecho hasta la cintura cerr\u00e1ndose por la espalda mediante un sistema de cordones que se ajusta como una segunda piel. La presi\u00f3n que ejerc\u00eda esta prenda dificult\u00f3 la correcta respiraci\u00f3n y limit\u00f3 la capacidad de movimiento, por lo que \u00fanicamente era utilizada por mujeres que no realizaran ning\u00fan trabajo f\u00edsico.
