Aunque sea conocido como La ronda de noche, el t\u00edtulo original de la obra es La compa\u00f1\u00eda militar del capit\u00e1n Frans Banninck Cocq y el teniente Willem van Ruytenburgh ya que tras su restauraci\u00f3n en 1947 y la eliminaci\u00f3n del barniz oscuro, se descubri\u00f3 que el t\u00edtulo no se ajustaba a la realidad debido a que la acci\u00f3n se desarrollaba de d\u00eda. La obra, encargada por la corporaci\u00f3n de arcabuceros, reperesenta al capit\u00e1n que da la orden de marchar junto al alf\u00e9rez acompa\u00f1ados de 18 integrantes.
