Felipe IV acudi\u00f3 al frente por primera vez en la denominada jornada de Arag\u00f3n para insuflar \u00e1nimo a sus tropas ante la batalla que se avecinaba contra el franc\u00e9s. En su s\u00e9quito tuvo cabida Vel\u00e1zquez pero no como pintor, sino como ayuda de C\u00e1mara honorario. A los pocos d\u00edas de la toma de L\u00e9rida, Felipe IV se manda retratar por el maestro sevillano. La obra muestra los atributos propios de un monarca: bast\u00f3n de mando en su mano derecha acompa\u00f1ado del tois\u00f3n de oro. Esta pintura se realiz\u00f3 de manera apresurada en 1644 para enviarse a Madrid con la mayor presteza posible. A su vez, el 10 de agosto de 1644, la colonia catalana en Madrid solicit\u00f3 el lienzo para exponerlo bajo un dosel rico bordado en la madrile\u00f1a iglesia de San Mart\u00edn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
