I\u00f1igo L\u00f3pez de Recalde, natural de Azpeitia, se dedic\u00f3 inicialmente al ejercicio militar consecuencia de lo cual particip\u00f3 en la defensa de Pamplona (1521) contra los franceses. De aquella batalla I\u00f1igo L\u00f3pez sali\u00f3 herido, lo que acabar\u00eda oblig\u00e1ndole a retirarse de las armas.
