Sin embargo, tras 1659, Francia hab\u00eda conseguido desbancar la hegemon\u00eda espa\u00f1ola, lo que requer\u00eda de una demostraci\u00f3n m\u00e1s tangible de la nueva pujanza francesa. Un encuentro diplom\u00e1tico en la capital inglesa entre los diplom\u00e1ticos de Felipe IV y Luis XIV acab\u00f3 en una trifulca a causa de que los embajadores del rey Cat\u00f3lico negaran la prelaci\u00f3n a su hom\u00f3nimo franc\u00e9s. Enterado de los sucesos, Luis XIV exigi\u00f3 una reparaci\u00f3n a Felipe IV que fue respondida d\u00e1ndose desde entonces la prelaci\u00f3n al cuerpo diplom\u00e1tico franc\u00e9s.
