Van de Velde’s scene suggests a modern vision of the various figures depicted. A splendid lady rides in a saddle, wearing a feathered hat and golden dress while a group of hunters lead her in a triumphal procession accompanied by their rifles, dogs and falcons. In addition to her dress, which demonstrates her wealthy status, she is accompanied by her husband in the foreground and her page, showing how this practice of hunting with falconry corresponds to a series of canons of the highest spheres and involves the care and training of the birds.
