Collaborative blog of IES Miguel Catalán to celebrate the IV Centenary of Miguel de Cervantes where different topics are explained. Among them, we have this short article about the different means of transport in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. With the beginning in the 16th century of the post office service linking the places where the Spanish Court resided with the main European urban centres, this post office service was extended to other Spanish cities. The conditions of the terrain and other conditioning factors such as the capacity of the horses would play an important role in the development of what we can call the first “taxis” in history.
