This small image presents the classic familiar components of a Veermer composition. A man and a woman sharing a pleasant moment alone in a comfortable, light-flooded interior. In the image, the young woman appears in surprise before the viewer as she receives a lesson in music theory. This practice was certainly widespread among those young Dutchmen from well-to-do families who took up music as a further discipline in their education, enhancing their creativity.
