Adriaen Van Ostade’s narrative, as with Brueghel, replaced the grotesque and violent content in favour of a more amiable and humorous aspect in the form of a satirical narrative that is transformed into a positive description of the peasantry (represented in the moments of rest and amusement). The scene takes place inside a peasant hut where a violinist and a woman playing the flute accompany the songs of another woman and two men with their music.
