]]> On 2 January 1492, the Catholic Monarchs entered the city of Granada, thus completing the Reconquest. A few days earlier, on 25 November 1491, the capitulations formalising the conditions of surrender were signed. boabdil accepted 77 articles that contained the terms of the surrender of the city; among them, they regulated the life of the Muslims (they could not carry gunpowder weapons, they would be judged by their laws, their property could not be confiscated, they were not obliged to identify themselves as Muslims with a mark, they were exempt from paying taxes for 3 years, etc.), they placed limits on the Christians (such as prohibiting them from entering the mosques) and on the Jews (they could not be tax collectors). They also stipulated the surrender of the Alhambra fortress and surrounding fortifications. These capitulations, which were closer to a change in administrative management than to a re-education and repression of Granada society, came to an end in 1499 when Cardinal Cisneros promoted numerous policies of Christianisation.
