Reigns is a videogame marked by its accessibility to all audiences, inviting the player to occupy the throne of a medieval monarch in his transition to the Modern Age, making relevant decisions about certain events that take place in his territory. Through a simple but innovative mechanic, decisions are resolved by sliding left or right according to whether the player seeks to accept the game’s proposal, or whether they want to opt for a more personal way of imposing authority in the kingdom.
The system is based on continuous requests from advisors, villagers and even enemies, which must be answered in order to keep the family dynasty in control of the throne for several generations. The most relevant events present in the game are based on historical and social contexts that occurred in real life, and you can continue the story as we know it, or try to progress through time with more personal and far-fetched choices. The solutions to these unforeseen events can either improve the quality of life of the society or lead to a popular revolt if they do not agree, as it is ultimately the subjects who are in control.

The post Reigns first appeared on History Lab.

Set against the backdrop of the Renaissance, Reigns: Her Majesty puts the player in the role of a medieval monarch in her transition to modernity

The post Reigns: Her Majesty first appeared on History Lab.

Reigns: Her Majesty puts the player in the role of controlling a monarchical dynasty from the Middle Ages to cultural modernity. This second instalment of the saga continues to focus on accessibility for all audiences, maintaining the decision system by swiping left or right according to the choice we want to make regarding the events, mainly historical, that are taking place.
As the game progresses, there comes a moment in which the cultural renaissance radically transforms society with new knowledge and intrinsic pretensions of these new subjects. For this occasion, in addition, a series of challenges have been introduced to be met during each reign -achieving a certain amount of progress in harvests, legislating dowries homogeneously, expanding the city to a certain limit…-, which, if achieved, will provide exclusive tools for the next reign. The main objective is still to stay on the throne for several generations, experiencing history as it happened, or innovating towards other more or less beneficial situations, always under our choices.

The post Reigns: Her Majesty first appeared on History Lab.
