The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando conserves an exceptional heritage consisting of more than 1,500 paintings, 1,500 sculptures, 15,300 drawings, 35,000 prints, 2,000 photographs, as well as furniture, silver and goldsmith objects, porcelain, ceramics and other decorative arts. The Royal Academy of Fine Arts aims to “promote artistic creativity, as well as the study, dissemination and protection of the arts and cultural heritage, particularly painting, sculpture, architecture, music and the new image arts”.

The houses of the Lecrín Valley (18th c.)

This online resource consists of a database that provides both researchers and other users with data recorded in the Cadastre of the Marquis of La Ensenada on the Lecrin Valley. It highlights the great value that can be derived from the exploitation of such a valuable source of documentation as the Cadastre of the Marquis of La Ensenada. The attempted fiscal reform of the Ensenada Cadastre in Andalusia was carried out during the first four years after its inception in 1750. The operations carried out in the Intendencia de Granada were under the direction of Luis González Torres Navarra, Marquis of Campoverde. Initially, the aim of this operation was to improve in some way the system of administration of the territory. In short, it is a work promoted by the GENARQ research project (History of Architecture from a Gender Perspective) developed within the Families, Inequality and Generational Change, 1700-1900 Project. Among its sections we can carry out searches related to homeowners through a glossary specialised by surnames and sex, as well as by houses and references to other buildings.

Royal Chapel of Granada

The royal chapel of Granada, which was erected to preserve the remains of the Catholic Monarchs, was built in Gothic style between 1505 and 1517. The 16th century is the century of the chapel’s fullness, where the sobriety of the building is highlighted. Under Emperor Charles I it continued to flourish with all kinds of decorations. Today, the mark left by Queen Isabella, in a certain sense, marks the large number of visits that take place every year. On this website, users can access the history of the monument, as well as take a guided tour where they can see the different cultural contributions that the chapel has undergone over the last 500 years. This portal also contains complementary information on the Lonja, built in 1518 by the Granada City Council.

Gallery of Art

The Web Gallery of Art is a project that is not related to any museum or art institution, and is not financially supported by corporate sponsors. However, it does have the support and advice of professionals in the discipline. The website is a virtual museum and searchable database of European fine art covering a chronology spanning a time span from the 3rd to the 19th centuries. This initiative was launched in 1996 as a Renaissance art news site with the intention of presenting this art in the most complete way possible. Gradually, the website began to incorporate, on the one hand, Paleochristian and pre-Romanesque art, and, on the other hand, it began to include works belonging to the Baroque period, and recently it has included 19th century art. The layout of the website shows different sections of the decorative and architectural arts that enhance the user experience with guided tours that help to understand the artistic and historical relationship between different works and artists. At the same time, the collection responds to the need of visitors to find a site where they can access diverse information on Art and History together with the corresponding pictorial illustrations. It is thus a searchable database complemented by a glossary containing articles on artistic terms, relevant historical events, important figures, cities and museums. Ultimately, the Web Gallery of Art is intended to be a free resource and educational tool in art history primarily for students and professionals in the academic world.

Perspective in Renaissance art

This website shows us some resources and learning objects in a magnificent documentary repository supported by the University of Valladolid. Ten-episode series dedicated to perspective, especially in the Renaissance. This series was made in the framework of the Teaching Innovation Project “Clío en el Laberinto. ICT and Internet in the teaching and dissemination of research results in the field of Art History” (PID 2011/60), carried out between 2011 and 2012. The series consists of several short chapters which address the theme of perspective in the History of Art through emblematic figures such as Velázquez, Filippo Brunelleschi, the humanist Alberti, Paolo Uccello, Piero della Francesca and Leonardo Da Vinci.
