]]> Linked to the Dutch Utrecht school, Joost Cornelisz specialised in genre paintings. His works are generally set in urban landscapes, in the manner of villages or small towns, where the anecdotal is the main subject of the canvas. The work is represented through a theme organised according to a classical scheme, with a main street traced in perspective towards the back of the painting, in which a small landscape appears. Through the crossing, a number of local people can be seen engaged in various activities. They are all ordinary people. However, a stooped man in the centre of the canvas with a walking stick and a dog stands out.
