]]> Collantes’s work represents an approach to the sensibilities awakened in 17th-century Flanders through paintings of this type that reflect certain realities of which very few similar examples are known in Spain. The foreign influence is also evident in the oxen, as the composition resembles Nordic prints that leave room for an open composition. In the background, the shepherds are depicted resting, giving rise to the representation of the peninsular countryside during the 17th century.
