]]> The end of a wedding feast in the countryside is the moment chosen by Jan Brueghel the Elder to depict peasant life at one of its busiest moments. The figures drink, dance, kiss, embrace and bring gifts to the bride and groom in the background of the red cloth. Unlike his father, Pieter Brueghel the Elder, who depicted peasant incontinence, lewdness and excessive drinking, this scene is more restrained and calm, reflecting the gentle, everyday side of these celebrations.
