]]> Summer is the season of the year dedicated to the goddess Ceres in the traditional interpretations of the Four Seasons depicted in Goya’s work. The scene takes place in front of the great mass of a medieval castle and shows the reapers resting in the fields after the wheat harvest (already in sheaves). On the left-hand side, three of them are serving to drink to a young man who has already been drunk, as the inclination of the wineskin indicates that it is practically empty. In the centre, the children play on the wheat gathered in the cart, forming a triangle in the composition, which is closed by the parents on the right. On the far right is a farmer preparing the wheat with the rake, hurrying to thresh it with the large stone.
