										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Thanks to the insurance contracts of Mallorca&#8217;s maritime trade, it is possible to offer statistical tables of Mallorcan exports, as well as to study the differentiated value of each type of product.<br />
By examining the insurances of the notary Miquel Boix, a total of 1,008 insurance contracts between 1451 and 1464 can be clarified, most of them centred on 1457 and the two final years, 1463 and 1464. With regard to the origin of the goods, 613 of them had Mallorca as their point of departure and 196 had Mallorca as their destination, with the rest being distributed nationally between Menorca and Ibiza. All in all, the total of the 1,008 contracts amount to 68,391.1 pounds, of which almost 300 contracts belong to the fabric trade. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The customs tariffs of the ports of Seville and Cadiz, the main platforms for trade with America, are marked by the struggle of the two cities for tax advantages. During the 17th century, many merchants and traders moved from Seville to Cadiz due to the facilities offered by the port of Cadiz, both in terms of navigation and customs measures and taxes. While Seville collected the almojarifazgo de Indias, the alcabala and the saca, in 1665 the merchants of Cadiz reduced the alcabala from 10% to 4% after buying the right to collect it from the King. In this way, the tax burden in the port of Seville was around 30%, while in Cadiz, as we have seen, only 4% was applied. The author reflects in the resource the different customs tariffs according to the product and represented in reales de vellón. The comparison of prices resulted in the Sevillian protest; in 1666 the monarch ordered the equalisation of the almojarifazgo taxes in all customs offices, a measure that was never implemented. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This documentary delves into the economic and commercial features of 18th century Cantabria. In this context, the emerging prominence of the bourgeoisie, the importance of maritime connections, the opening up of trade with the breaking of the mercantile monopoly with America and the economic growth favoured by the road transport network via the Reinosa road, will be dynamic elements of a historical period in which a whole series of themes related to the process of modernisation in the region of Cantabria at the end of the Ancien Régime are raised and suggested to the viewer. The technological evolution of agriculture, mainly with the improvement of the flour industry, is taken as a guiding thread in the narration of the episode. However, the documentary also argues how the fiscal intentions of the State and the strategic location of the seaport of Santander in the European mercantilist networks would lead to the beginning of a process of industrialisation which would take centre stage well into the 19th century.
