]]> José Elbo depicted Cayetano Fuentes and his family in a domestic interior in the centre of the composition. Cayetano, standing, wears a dark frock coat open to reveal his checked waistcoat and neckerchief, while his wife, seated on the sofa, wears a white suit with puffed sleeves and a crimson fichu covering her shoulders. She holds a baby in her lap, covered with a blanket, while her right hand embraces her eldest son. The bourgeois room is completed by a chair with drapery and a sober table on which some documents are scattered. Cayetano Fuentes was linked to the Court as a palace tailor, although he is known for having aborted the kidnapping of Isabella II when she was a child. The new conception of the family stands out in this work, in which each character plays an established social role: the father as an intellectual being and the woman as the protector of the home and family morals.
