The materials included in this website are aimed at students of Secondary Education and Baccalaureate with the intention of complementing face-to-face classes. This portal is currently under development and, therefore, maintains a dynamic structure that allows for the expansion of content. Among the many resources offered on this portal, we can find maps, timelines, concept maps, diagrams, audiovisuals, interactive exercises and a glossary of terms. In this case, access is offered to a conceptual map on the definition of the concept of Ancien Régime and the set of characteristics and socio-cultural, economic and political elements that make it up. In turn, the map contains direct links to other terms and concepts, so that knowledge of other cross-cutting elements of the topic in question can be further reinforced.

The post Concept map.

The Contracting House, established in the Reales Alcázares in Seville in 1503, was the first administrative body created specifically for the management of America. In 1717, it was moved to Cadiz until its extinction in 1790. This institution organised, managed and processed expeditions to America, as well as controlling commercial activities and the transit of people. Although there were other Casas de Contratación in the Peninsula, the one in Seville had a monopoly on trade between Spain and its American territories; this required collaboration with the merchants’ guild and the determination of the port of Seville, which became the only one authorised for such activities.

The post Contracting House of Seville (1503-1790) first appeared on History Lab.

In this deed, the entry of Salvador Sánchez as an apprentice silversmith, under the age of 14, is agreed between his father, Vicente Sánchez, and the master, Gabriel Marcipe.

The post Apprenticeship deed of Salvador Sanchez (silversmith apprentice, 1687) first appeared on History Lab.

The document keeps a common pattern of documentary typology, in which the rights and obligations of each of the contracting parties are set out. Thus, the master Gabriel Marcipe is bound to give shelter in his home to the young Salvador Sánchez, to train him or to provide certain services such as assisting him with illnesses, except for contagious diseases; while the other party undertakes to remain in his master’s home, without seeking another workshop for his training. Although apprenticeship writing was common during the Modern Age, we cannot affirm that it was the majority, as a very important percentage of these contracts were established orally.

The post Apprenticeship deed of Salvador Sanchez (silversmith apprentice, 1687) first appeared on History Lab.
