A masterpiece of Spanish Romanticism. Nineteenth-century history painting reflected great moments in the history of the Spanish monarchy, with special attention paid to lurid events such as the mental imbalance of Queen Juana I, after she was widowed by Philip I the Handsome. The scenes of the 15th and 16th centuries were masterfully depicted ex novo by authors such as Pradilla (author of this work), Rosales and Gisbert, among others.

The Gran Capitan, walking the field of the battle of Ceriñola

History painting by Federico de Madrazo, depicting what happened after the victory of El Gran Capitán at Ceriñola (1503). The corpse of his opponent, the Duke of Nemours, is shown to him. This battle, together with that of Garellano, would decide the war in favour of Spanish interests, which would hold sway over Naples for the next two centuries.

3D video of a slave ship

The European colonisers trafficked millions of slaves captured mainly in Africa in order to use them as labour for numerous activities. Thus, thousands and thousands of people were transported to various regions of the planet, as we know well in the case of the American continent. This 3D reconstruction details with great precision each compartment and operation of the 18th century slave ship called L’Aurore. This resource is available in the “Transatlantic Slave Trade Database”, which contains an immense amount of information on the development of slavery from the 16th century to the end of the 19th century. It is a project supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (United States) and is the result of the efforts of scholars from different institutions, including historians, cartographers, and slave trade specialists and researchers.

Motherhood throughout history

The video is part of the Research Group on Literary Sources for the History of Women of the Complutense University of Madrid, accessible from the web of didactic/divulgative resources on the History of women and gender relations in Spain, and deals with motherhood throughout History from an interdisciplinary perspective through the interventions of prestigious specialists such as Gloria Franco Rubio, Pilar Díaz Sánchez, Cristina Segura Graiño, María Jesús Fuente Pérez and María Soledad Arredondo Sirodey. With a duration of 23 minutes, the aim is to bring this type of research on cross-cutting issues such as motherhood to students, teachers at different levels of education and the general public. GeaCron

GeaCron is a geographic information application implemented from a vector database. The information it provides can be used both in the field of historical research and in all educational fields. GeaCron’s mission is to make historical information universally accessible to all, through intuitive and attractive geo-temporal maps and configurable timelines. It provides a system for representing historical events and geopolitical maps of any region of the world and for any historical period. Raster images or vector files such as KML or shapefiles can be generated. This design allows GeaCron to be interactive, accurate, configurable, flexible, scalable and facilitates the augmentation of historical information. The maps show the historical situation of the world at the beginning of each year. GeaCron is also intended to be an enabler for websites that have historical content, such as online encyclopaedias, digital journalism or other geography and history websites.
