										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This is one of Moroni&#8217;s most famous paintings. The dress and style of the painting suggest that it was executed at the end of his artistic career, around 1570. The cloth merchant or tailor looks at the viewer, interrupting his work as he is in readiness to cut the cloth to create the dress. He wears a sword belt, denoting high status, and his clothing demonstrates a status of a successful professional rather than a craftsman.
