]]> The work by Andries van Eertvelt depicts a naval battle on a rough sea accompanied by stormy skies in a dispute between the French navy, which emerged as the victor, and the Spanish. Seven ships took part in the battle, including a galleon with the coat of arms of Philip IV on the stern and the flag of the Spanish Monarchy on the main mast, with a red cross on a yellow background. To the left is the French ship with the flag of the Bourbon dynasty with three golden fleurs-de-lis on a blue background. Between the waves is a barrel with the words AVE: the painter’s monogram with his signature.
