The transatlantic slave trade

The European colonisers trafficked millions of slaves captured mainly in Africa in order to use them as labour for numerous activities. In this way, thousands and thousands of people were transported to various regions of the planet, as we know well in the case of the American continent. This resource provides access to a large database called the “Transatlantic Slave Trade Database”, which contains an immense amount of information on the development of slavery from the 16th century to the end of the 19th century. It is a project supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities (United States) and is the result of the efforts of scholars from different institutions, including historians, cartographers and slave trade specialists and researchers. The database itself is divided into various fields such as timelines, maps, 3D videos, essays and estimates and a detailed image bank.

Didactics 2.0 Museums in women’s terms

Didactica 2.0 Museos en Femenino is the result of joint work between a team from the Instituto de Investigaciones Feministas of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the Asociación e-Mujeres and the teams from the museums participating in the project: Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Museo Arqueológico Nacional, Museo del Traje and Museo Nacional de Cerámica González Martí. The project focuses on women in art and aims to develop joint actions in the field of museums to disseminate and facilitate knowledge of the cultural heritage held in them and promote their integration. On the website, each of the participating museums offers detailed and precise itineraries, as well as access to the corresponding teaching guides. These guides are extremely useful for both students and teachers. It is therefore a very useful tool for dissemination and teaching to guide the analysis of art and history from a gender perspective. For the period of the Modern Age, the proposals that best fit its chronology are those of the Museo del Prado and, in part, those of the Museo Nacional de Cerámica González Martí and the Museo del Traje.

Didactic/divulgative resources on the History of women and gender relations in Spain

This website brings together a series of didactic/divulgative resources on the history of women and gender relations in Spain produced by teachers, graduates and undergraduate students. It is a site in a permanent process of construction. Chronologically planned in the long term, each section offers videos on monographic issues that can be found on its YouTube Channel. In addition, the videos are accompanied by lists of specific bibliographies for further knowledge and links to other websites in some cases. The website, which is the result of several teaching innovation projects, aims to bring research on women’s history and gender relations to students, teachers at different levels of education and the general public.

Digital educational content in Social Sciences

“Contenidos educativos digitales de la Junta de Extremadura” is a portal of the Government of Extremadura that brings together current news, information from the Regional Ministry of Education and all the educational services of the region available to the school community, conveniently organised in sections. In its Didactic Corners section, there is a specialised section for teachers and students of Social Sciences, supporting the teaching-learning process of these subjects through educational resources conveniently organised and selected for their graphic and pedagogical quality. Divided into Secondary (from 1st to 4th ESO), First and Second Baccalaureate, the contents are structured into Teaching Units, Presentations, Animations, Videos and Webquests. It also has a Procedures Box (with diagrams and concept maps) and Didactic Games.

Common Educational Space. Open educational resources network

A space for educational and learning uses, mainly by the teaching community and students, but also by the general public. Here it will be possible to search, consult and download learning objects in different formats. The Procomún Educational Space is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP) that builds on the Agrega Project, enriching it with new elements. It takes the form of a web space that integrates learning objects and teaching experiences, constituting an intelligent, social and distributed network. It contains the repository of Open Educational Resources (REA) created by the MEFP and the Autonomous Communities, in which the educational community can find and create structured teaching material, classified in a standardised way (LOM-ES), ready for downloading and direct use by teachers and students. A “semantic layer” has been built on top of the existing platform and the services offered by the website have been extended by working with structured and linked data within the framework of semantic web standards. The incorporation of a faceted search engine allows users to find educational objects by restricting the overall set of results through multiple criteria or facets based on their own reasoning. The other fundamental element of the Procomún Educational Space is the Teaching Social Network closely linked to the educational resources through a system of social tagging, user voting, educational contexts, recommendations for use and learning communities. The contents are structured in different areas of knowledge and educational levels, from kindergarten to university.
