]]> The Battle of Waterloo was one of the most popular battles of the Modern Age, pitting the first French empire against a coalition of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Prussia, Hanover, Nassau and Brunswick in 1815. After returning from exile, Napoleon proclaimed himself emperor for the second time in order to halt the advance of the coalition of Russia, Austria, Britain and Russia in the Low Countries. Faced with numerous French cavalry attacks on the hill, Napoleon engaged his Imperial Guard, which was defeated by General Perefrine Maitland’s British guards, causing the first disbandment of the French Imperial Guard. Napoleon was finally defeated at Waterloo by Wellington. In this play, the Duke of Wellington, commanding the Anglo-Dutch troops, receives word that Prussian troops are coming to his aid.
