]]> Some dates, scattered throughout the birth of modernity, mark the awareness of the aberration that constituted slavery: 1688 when the American Quakers condemn it in no uncertain terms, 1794 when the French Revolution forbids it or 2007, the year of belated ban in Mauritania. Abolitionism is a long and troubled process that brings human dignity back to the center of values. It becomes a real revolution of mentalities in the moment of maximum expansion of the black trafficking towards the Americas. With one of the world’s leading experts on slavery, Professor Olivier Grenouilleau, author of reference works such as “Les traites négrières. Essai d’histoire global” or “La révolution abolitionniste” starts from emancipation to tell us about evolution history of a planetary violation of people’s rights: the slave trade not only marked the history of the West, but also and for a longer duration that of the Muslim world as well as of various African kingdoms. Without forgetting that slavery characterized the classical antiquity of great civilizations such as the Greco-Roman one.
