An example of a Renaissance building in Spain built on the initiative of Charles V after his wedding in Seville to Isabella of Portugal in 1526. The original design was by Pedro Machuca. On the square floor plan of the palace is a circular arcaded courtyard, unique in its style. Divided into two levels, the lower one is in the Doric-Tuscan style and the upper one is Ionic. The elevations are lintelled and are separated by an entablature with triglyphs and metopes with motifs of garlands and bucklers.

The post 360º image of the interior of the Palace of Carlos V in Granada first appeared on History Lab.

360º image of the exterior of the Palace of Carlos V in the Alhambra in Granada. An example of a Renaissance building in Spain built on the initiative of Charles V after his wedding in Seville to Isabella of Portugal in 1526. The original design was by Pedro Machuca. The square outer façade is structured around two floors with Doric-Tuscan and Ionic pilasters superimposed on top of each other, separated by an intermediate entablature. On the lower level there is a cushion wall with circular and quadrangular openings, and on the upper level the wall is not cushioned and there are lintelled balconies or balconies with triangular pediments. Unlike its more classical interior, its exterior is in a complex and irregular mannerist style.

The post 360º image of the exterior façade of the Palace of Carlos V in Granada first appeared on History Lab.
