The document presented is the baptismal register of Mariano de las Mercedes José Roca de Togores, better known as the Marquis of Molins. In the register, the priest of Chinchilla, Paulino Molino, receives authorisation from the priest of the church of San Juan Bautista in Albacete to perform the baptism of Mariano. In the record he records the importance of the baptism by mentioning the parents: Luis Roca de Togores y Rosel, Count of Pinohermoso, Lord of Benejuzar, born in Orihuela; and María Francisca de Paula Carrasco, Countess of Villarreal and Lady of Pozo Rubio. It also refers to both maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as the most important witnesses attending the ceremony. All this information was compiled in the Baptismal Books of the parishes, making it possible to establish genealogies and recreate the life trajectories of the individuals.

The post Baptism of the Marquis of Molins in 1812 first appeared on History Lab.

Parish registers are a fundamental source for establishing the life trajectories and genealogies of individuals. Baptism, marriage and death are key stages in the life cycle that are catalogued in the parish registers. In this case, the document refers to the death of Melchor de Macanaz, illustrious literary figure and public prosecutor of the Council of Castile during the reign of Philip V. Thanks to the register, we know that he died in the Albacete town of Hellín on 5 December 1760, the widower of María Maximiliana.

The post Death of Melchor de Macanaz in Hellín, 1760 first appeared on History Lab.
