In general, Roma and Sinti people practice the religion of the country in which they live. The Roma in Bulgaria are mainly divided between three religions: Orthodoxy, Islam and Protestantism. In fact, they have perceived and continue to perceive Islam and Christianity in their own way. Therefore, the religiosity of Roma in Bulgaria (Christian and Muslim) acquires a particular syncretic character, and in this respect it should not be classified as “pure” religiosity (Christian or Muslim).

The post Roma and Religion first appeared on History Lab.

The main goal of the project is to provide information and resources in order to facilitate better understanding of the Sinti and Roma culture and history, develop new strategies of addressing discrimination against Sinti and Roma, and promote peaceful coexistence in Europe. To support this goal, the project pursues the following objectives: Produce a multimedia resource incorporating audiovisual, documentary, legislative, scholarly, and mass media information related to Sinti and Roma rights and anti-Sinti and Roma discrimination; Inform target groups (political decision makers and educational policy makers) about the historical mechanisms that led to discrimination, exclusion, and persecution of the Roma in the twentieth century through a progressive erosion of their rights; Demonstrate the continuity and the mechanisms driving exclusion/persecution of Sinti and Roma throughout history and contemporary Europe.

The post Giving Memory a Future: The Sinti and Roma in Italy and around the world first appeared on History Lab.
