In 1997 the Department of History at Fordham University in New York City created a web repository as a result of The Internet History Sourcebooks Project with access to a wide variety of historical texts and primary sources of documentation, whose purpose is to bring young students closer to the knowledge of the basic sources for the study of history. The website allows users to navigate through its contents in a simple and quick way. Each user can access the main blocks of the site by means of subject indexes at the top of each tab. In this case, we highlight the Modern History in the Movies section, where we will have access to numerous references to cinematographic works that deal with the Modern Era

The post Modern History in the Movies first appeared on History Lab.

The Seville Museum of Fine Arts was founded as the “Museum of Paintings” by Royal Decree on 16 September 1835, with works from convents and monasteries confiscated by the liberal government of Mendizábal. This art gallery is considered to be one of the most important in Spain and through this interactive virtual tour we can easily and quickly access a large part of its permanent exhibitions of religious-themed paintings, mostly belonging to the Baroque style. It also has important works by Francisco Pacheco, Zurbarán and Murillo.
The building where the museum is located dates back to the beginning of the 17th century, built on the ancient remains of a Mudejar building, the design of which is attributed to the architect Juan de Oviedo.

The post Museum of Fine Arts of Seville first appeared on History Lab.

The Albertina is a museum in Vienna, Switzerland, founded by the German Prince Albert of Saxony-Teschen (1738-1822), to whom it owes its name. The museum houses one of the world’s largest graphic collections, with over 60,000 drawings and almost one million prints, making it an ideal resource for those wishing to delve deeper into these areas. The online collection is divided into painting and sculpture; drawings and prints; photography; architecture; posters; objects, installations and art media. Many of the works are accompanied by explanations that can be read or even listened to. Among all the artists represented, Albrecht Dürer stands out.

The post Albertina Online Collections first appeared on History Lab.

The Gallery of Art website allows online consultation of a large number of works of art of different styles and historical periods

The post Gallery of Art first appeared on History Lab.

The Web Gallery of Art is a project that is not related to any museum or art institution, and is not financially supported by corporate sponsors. However, it does have the support and advice of professionals in the discipline. The website is a virtual museum and searchable database of European fine art covering a chronology spanning a time span from the 3rd to the 19th centuries. This initiative was launched in 1996 as a Renaissance art news site with the intention of presenting this art in the most complete way possible. Gradually, the website began to incorporate, on the one hand, Paleochristian and pre-Romanesque art, and, on the other hand, it began to include works belonging to the Baroque period, and recently it has included 19th century art. The layout of the website shows different sections of the decorative and architectural arts that enhance the user experience with guided tours that help to understand the artistic and historical relationship between different works and artists. At the same time, the collection responds to the need of visitors to find a site where they can access diverse information on Art and History together with the corresponding pictorial illustrations. It is thus a searchable database complemented by a glossary containing articles on artistic terms, relevant historical events, important figures, cities and museums. Ultimately, the Web Gallery of Art is intended to be a free resource and educational tool in art history primarily for students and professionals in the academic world.

The post Gallery of Art first appeared on History Lab.

Among the best-known works are the Modena Triptych by El Greco, the Portrait of Francis I of Este by Velázquez and the Estense Harp. It also has an extensive collection of musical instruments, coins, medals, manuscripts and maps.
