]]> Vicente Albán, a painter from Quito, produced several sets of six paintings dedicated to the representation of human types that responded to models taken from local society. These figures, dressed and adorned in the fashion of the Audiencia of Quito, were portrayed in open landscapes with various native elements, such as fruit trees from whose branches hung open fruit, of great interest for botanical studies. These works are closely related to the scientific aims of the 18th-century expeditions that travelled through much of the Americas.
