]]> The painting is possibly based on an engraving by Ambrosius Brambilla of the Italian school dated 1585. Produced by Louis Caullery, the painting shows an idealised panoramic view of Seville as seen from Triana in the cavalier perspective typical of the period, in which ochre and green tones dominate. The hierarchical perspective combines the detail of the main buildings of the period with the simplification of the most common buildings. The painting responds to an elaborate vision in which it is not a real transcription but an ideal, ordered and archetypal image of the city that evokes a visual experience rather than a real reflection.
