]]> In this work Rembrandt depicts five members of the Amsterdam drapers’ guild, who were responsible for checking the quality of the cloth. This was an unpaid position that lasted for a year and required them to meet three times a week. Their role in the confraternity led them, as they were elected by their community, to look after its interests. Behind them, an oil painting depicts the theme of the lighthouse, a symbol of good example and the path to follow.
