]]> The presence of students from all over Europe in Bologna has always represented a cultural and economic resource for the city, worthy of specific political and legal choices. Evidence of this can be found in a plaque commemorating the exemption from duties on books and provisions, decided in 1417, for the Studio’s Italian and transalpine students. The plaque was placed in a public place – on the side façade of the Palazzo della Mercanzia, seat of the Mercantile Court – so that the people of Bologna would be aware of the rule protecting students.
