This painting has been slightly modified in comparison with the sketch “The Drunken Bricklayer”. Less loosely executed as it is the definitive composition, the scene has been dignified by a more decorous depiction, more appropriate to the place for which it was intended. The character’s wound is not so visible and his companions no longer look at each other or smile, but appear with a serious countenance, frowning and reflecting on what has happened.
