On this popular promenade, which linked the Manzanares to the Puerta de Atocha, the nobles and their ladies mingled, with refined attitudes typical of courtly etiquette, along with majos like those seated relaxedly on the right bank. This work is a preparatory sketch and presentation to the king for a tapestry intended for the room of the Princes of Asturias in the Palace of El Pardo, painted by Ramón Bayeu. This spontaneous work by Francisco Bayeu depicts scenes of life in 18th-century Madrid.
