Italian-Belgian-French co-production, about the life of Carlo Broschi “Farinelli”, considered the most important castrated singer of all times. The plot is based on real events, although there are many elements that are not true to life. It won the Golden Globe for best foreign film in 1995. Farinelli had a great career at the main European courts (Milan, Vienna, London, Madrid). Castration was a method of producing male sopranos or altos. It was banned by Pope Leo XIII in the 19th century.
