This website provides a virtual tour of the Canadian Museum of History’s collection on New France. The various themes attempt to cover the territory on which New France is based, a land occupied by French settlers since 1534, when Jacques Cartier began the first of his three explorations in such an unusual and wild land. The tour shows some of the most important historical milestones of the French colonial experience. The layout of the contents is established by a series of specific headings showing objects, original texts, as well as other elements typical of the period.

The post Virtual Museum of New France first appeared on History Lab.

In 1997 the Department of History at Fordham University in New York City created a web repository as a result of The Internet History Sourcebooks Project with access to a wide variety of historical texts and primary sources of documentation, whose purpose is to bring young students closer to the knowledge of the basic sources for the study of history. The website allows users to navigate through its contents in a simple and quick way. Each user can access the main blocks of the site by means of subject indexes at the top of each tab. In this case, we highlight the Modern History in the Movies section, where we will have access to numerous references to cinematographic works that deal with the Modern Era

The post Modern History in the Movies first appeared on History Lab.

Virtual visit to the Ferrol Shipbuilding Museum, where you can learn about the peculiarities of shipbuilding in the 18th century

The Museum of Naval Construction, located in the Herrerías building, has managed to maintain the architectural structure typical of the 18th century. The important thing to note is that it houses two floors dedicated to the history of shipbuilding. On the ground floor we can access the different construction techniques, where we can also see in more detail the operation and the different parts of a ship.
On this visit we can see the wreck of the Fragata Magdalena, sunk in the Vivero estuary in 1810 and recovered by the Navy between the 1970s and 1980s.
On the upper floor there are a series of themed rooms such as the one dedicated to the Astano shipyard, called “Miracle in the Estuary”. Other rooms are dedicated to the Navy, its Ships and its Schools; the Shipping Companies, the Ports, etc.

The post Ferrol Shipbuilding Museum first appeared on History Lab.
